10 Tips To Remember When Building Your Mudroom

10 Tips To Remember When Building Your Mudroom
  1. If you can afford it, install laminate cabinets. They shed water and wipe clean easily.
  2. Stone or tile floors are tough and tolerate muddy boots, but a quality linoleum also fits the bill and is more affordable.
  3. Turn a bookshelf into a makeshift mudroom (If you can’t afford cabinets). Add a boot tray to the bottom shelf to corral mud and water.
  4. Include a message center in your mudroom. Chalkboard paint easily turns a cabinet door into a spot for reminders or notes to your family. Adhesive cork transforms a cupboard into a bulletin board. Use magnetic organizing containers on metal surfaces.
  5. Store objects in bins because it avoids clutter and makes it easier to find what you're looking for. If your bins don't come with built-in spaces for labels like these, get out your label maker and tag each one so you'll always know where to find and return items.
  6. Make a space for everyone in your family. Cubbies make it easy the family to find their things and to know where to put them away. Label overhead bins with names or initials, and there's no question where the kids should put their shoes, coats, and backpacks. Make sure hooks are where kids can reach them if you expect them to hang up their coats.
  7. Including a laundry center in your mudroom is a great idea if you have the space and the plumbing. Stackable models take up less room.
  8. A retractable clothesline is the perfect addition to any mudroom. It takes up no space at all when not in use, but it is worth it when you do need it. Hang wet clothes and snow-encrusted mittens and scarves. You might consider adding a second line at kid height, so they can hang up their own wet things.
  9. Store pet food, leashes, toys, and other supplies. Storing food in sealed containers rather than in the bag will help deter mice and other pests.
  10. Cleaning cubby. Store all of your cleaning supplies in one place with a handy little cleaning closet. The cupboard is sized to be just tall enough for the vacuum and a shelf above it. Hooks at the back of the mini closet hold rags and tools like whisk brooms. On the door, narrow bins hold cleaning supplies while still allowing the door to close and clear the vacuum. A paper towel holder fits right on top of the door, making cleaning as painless as possible!
Start out by just doing a few of these things then mark them off as you go along!!

10 Spring Cleaning Tips To Sell Your Home!

May is not only a great time for spring cleaning, it’s also the best month to sell your home. Here are 10 spring cleaning tips for homeowners who want to impress potential buyers. If you don’t have time to do them all, start at the top and work your way down because they will have the biggest impact.

  1. Replace popcorn ceilings.

This was a popular thing a few years ago but modern day homebuyers don’t like it. Removing or covering a popcorn ceiling is a time intensive process, but can increase the value of your home.
  1. Apply fresh paint.
A new coat of interior and exterior paint could make a world of difference. It dramatically improves the appearance of your home and makes it feel fresh and clean. Try to stick to neutral colors that will go with any furniture, and choose an exterior paint that matches other homes in the neighborhood.
  1. Focus on the floors.
Steam clean all carpets, use a wood-cleaning product on hardwood floors, and consider professional cleaning for tile or marble. The walls, ceiling, and floors are what potential buyers pay the closest attention to while on home tours, so it’s important that they are as clean as possible.
  1. Make a grand entrance.
Repaint the front door and have it match the shutters. Dress up the entry with seasonal decorations that stand out. People are naturally attracted to symmetry, so place any accents on both sides of the door.
  1. Replace or repair the mailbox.
An old or damaged mailbox makes the wrong first impression.
  1. Maintain the yard.
Landscaping has a major effect on curb appeal. Planting flowers in the yard can be an inexpensive way to add a pop of color.
  1. De-clutter and organize.
Keep only the essentials, and put everything else in storage or give it away. Not only will your home feel cleaner and bigger when it’s not filled with stuff, this process will save you time when you’re ready to move.
  1. Let in the light.
Wash the windows inside and out, clean the curtains and blinds, dust any light fixtures and replace any burnt-out bulbs. A room filled with light will feel more inviting.
  1. Deep clean the kitchen and bath.
Wipe down or paint the cupboards, clean the grout between tiles, clear everything off the counters. Re-caulk tubs, showers and sinks and polish the fixtures.
  1. Stage the backyard.
The backyard is often the last thing buyers see on a tour, so it should look nice. Simple staging can make a big difference like adding a table and chair set. Remove any dying plants, and take down any shed or outdoor storage that’s in poor condition.
If you follow these simple tasks your home should sell quickly!
